Retail sales in Taiwan posted solid growth, rising by 4.6% y-o-y in the first two months of Q2 2018. The increase was partly due to the stable sales performance of the general merchandise retailing sector. Other general merchandise stores including gift shops and duty free stores benefited mainly from an increase in domestic travelers.
Only a limited number of leasing transactions were concluded in Q2 2018, prompting a few landlords to adjust asking rents downward to secure high profile tenants.
Average high street rents in Taipei are forecast to remain stable in the coming months as most retailers will only lease space at fair market value.
